Disney’s 1988 live-action animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit is credited with elevating the art of animation and remains today the gold standard for blending live-action with animation on the big screen. Inspired by Gary Wolf’s 1981 novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit, the movie version is an ode to American Pop culture set in Hollywood during the Golden Age of Animation in the 1940s. Who Framed Roger Rabbit won three Academy Awards and a Special Achievement Academy Award for animation direction. The celluloids created to bring Roger Rabbit to life are works of art, meticulously conceived and hand-painted with an attention to detail not before seen in animation art. We are pleased to offer a selection of original cels from Who Framed Roger Rabbit on August 2 as part of our Americana weekend.
