About The Artist
John Winston Ono Lennon (1940 -1980) was an English singer-songwriter who co-founded the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in popular music history. John Lennon was born and raised in Liverpool. As a teenager, he became interested in the skiffle craze and formed his first band, the Quarrymen. In 1960, the band evolved into the Beatles. After the group disbanded in 1970, Lennon started a solo career. He produced critically acclaimed albums such as John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine and wrote iconic songs like "Give Peace a Chance", "Working Class Hero" and "Imagine". In 1969, he married Yoko Ono and changed his name to John Ono Lennon. Lennon stepped away from the music business in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean but made a comeback in 1980 with the album Double Fantasy, which he created with Ono. Unfortunately, he was assassinated three weeks after the album's release. Lennon was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
