About The Artist
Patrick Collins (1911–1994) was a leading figure in 20th-century Irish painting. In 1980, he was elected as an Honorary Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy (HRHA), and in 1981, he became a member of Aosdána, the Irish association of artists. His work was featured in a major retrospective organized by Ireland's Arts Council in 1982, with exhibitions in Cork, Belfast, and Dublin, followed by a solo Retrospective at the Sligo Art Gallery in 1985. Collins was honored with the title of Saoi by Aosdána in 1987 for his exceptional contributions to Irish visual arts and received an Honorary Doctorate of Literature from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1988.
