About The Artist
Murray Weiss, born on February 20, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, and was a highly esteemed photographer and teacher for over 60 years, respected by his many students and colleagues. He worked in New York and at the Philadelphia College of Art before playing a pivotal role in introducing fine art photography to the Milwaukee area. He taught at the Layton School of Art and founded the Milwaukee Center for Photography. As an enthusiastic political activist, Murray expanded the awareness of those around him. He lived his life by the words of his beloved friend and mentor, Ralph Steiner: “In spite of everything, yes.”
