About The Artist
Kurz and Allison were a prominent chromolithograph publisher in the late 19th century, operating from 267-269 Wabash Avenue in Chicago. They gained renown in the mid-1880s for their large prints depicting American Civil War battles. This series, comprising 36 battle scenes, was based on designs by Louis Kurz (1835–1921), an Austrian native from Salzburg who emigrated to the United States in 1848 and was a war veteran himself.
