About The Artist
Seymour Joseph Guy was born in Greenwich, England in 1824. There, he studied under James Buttersworth and Ambrosini Jerome. He emigrated to the United States in 1854 and settled in New York City where he had a studio on 10th Street until his death in 1910. He was an accomplished genre painter, particularly in the area of domestic scenes and urban waifs, and an accomplished painter of children's portraits.
