Franz Marc
About The Artist
Franz Marc (1880–1916) was a German painter and printmaker, a key figure in the Expressionist movement and a co-founder of the Blue Rider group. Born in Munich, Marc's art often explored the spiritual and symbolic aspects of nature, particularly through depictions of animals. His vibrant, emotive use of color is exemplified in works like "The Yellow Cow" (1911) and "The Tower of Blue Horses" (1913). Marc's involvement in Der Blaue Reiter, alongside Kandinsky, solidified his commitment to abstraction and innovative artistic expression. Tragically, his life was cut short during World War I. Marc's legacy endures through his contributions to German Expressionism, where his bold use of color and visionary approach to the natural world left an indelible mark on modern art.
