About the Item: George Dureau is an icon in the history of New Orleans art. He was friends with Robert Mapplethorpe, and influenced Mapplethorpe's work greatly. Dureau often drew or photographed dwarves and amputees in beautiful poses with high aesthetic quality, not for the shock value, but as a statement that beauty can take many forms.
