About the Item: When Seeds Lie Low and Cold is a story of change, as birds fly south and seeds of future hope are buried beneath a blanket of falling leaves. The painting is the first panel from the 14-foot installation entitled “Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious by the seeds of yore.” The four panels in this installation speak to humanity’s place within the natural world. Through the imagery of the four seasons, the panels suggest seeds of hope and potential for changing the trajectory from ecological disaster into environmental stability lie buried deep within us. When Seeds Lie Low and Cold is from the Seeds of Change series of 35 works that suggest that, if we listen, science can lead us away from environmental devastation and climate change. The ideas for preserving our fragile planet are described as “seeds of change”—ideas that can be “planted” and can grow into a better future.
