About the Item: Charles Collins hails from a family of New Orleans artists. His late mother was a noted painter as his sister currently is, and he has a son who is a glassblower. His work has not been available outside of New Orleans, so we are pleased to present it to our audience. You can see a number of his paintings in our current inventory. They show the influence of his mother’s mid-century style. "Sun with Bridge" is a delightful abstraction of a rural scene, with wonderful complementary colors. It measures 28" x 22", and is painted on a high-profile canvas which can be either hung as-is or framed in a readily-available frame as the size is a common standard.

About The Artist
Alfred Charles Jerome Collins, commonly known as Charles Collins, was born in Hampstead in 1851. His father, George Edward Collins, was a painter and etcher. From a young age, Charles began creating artwork, focusing primarily on landscapes featuring cattle and figures. He studied at the West London School of Art but soon felt that the institution was hindering his artistic style. By 1876, Collins was residing at Sherwood House on Arundel Road in Dorking, where he married Georgiana Waddingham at St. Martin's Church. The couple had nine children, many of whom appeared in his paintings. Two of his sons went on to become painters themselves. Collins gained recognition for his watercolor and oil paintings, particularly his figures, rustic scenes, and genre works.
