About The Artist
Raised in Grand Junction, CO, where he still resides, Brown lives in a century-old house surrounded by peach and apricot trees, drawing inspiration from this serene setting and the nearby Bookcliffs mountain range. His artistic journey began in high school with a set of oil paints, leading to early success in an art contest and fueling his passion for art. Encouraged by local artists and a pivotal encounter with artist Mark Rohrig in Aspen, CO, Brown realized his potential for a professional art career. His practice includes painting on location, influenced by studies with Jack Kephart and further honed by Shang Ding, who emphasized painting from life, and Gordon Brown at the Denver Art Students' League, who refined his painterly instincts. Brown's work, influenced by 19th-century Tonalist painters, aims to faithfully capture natural landscapes. He spends extensive time outdoors, using photos and oil studies as mere references for his final canvases. Featured in the "Reflections of Reverie" exhibition and Southwest Art magazine, his work is held in various public and private collections.
