Schmidt-Rottluff's art, exemplified in works like "Nude Girl with Cat" (1910), features bold colors, dynamic forms, and a focus on emotional expression. Influenced by African and Oceanic art, his work evolved from early Fauvist influences to a distinctive style characterized by angular lines and intense, non-naturalistic color. Despite facing persecution during the Nazi regime, Schmidt-Rottluff continued to create art and later became associated with the post-war Expressionist movement.
