About The Artist
Andre Galland, born in 1886, was a French artist. After studying decorative and fine arts, Galland began illustrating children's books in 1904. At the same time, he worked for magazines and journals like Dimanche Illustre, Les Belles Images, and L'Illustration. Between 1918 and 1939, he was also a journalist/illustrator for L'Illustration. He also contributed to Le Petit Journal, Le Journal and Le Matin. Galland drew for Le Charivari, and was a poster illustrator for the republican party. As an advertising artist, he illustrated campaigns for the lottery and Vinet chocolate. During World War II, the artist made posters for the Vichy government and sketches for L'Espoir Francais. After the War, he covered the Nuremberg trial and founded the Union des Artists et Dessinateurs Francais (UADF) He also continued creating comics. From the early 1950s, he created various comic novels for the Paris-Graphic agency. Galland died in 1965.
