About the Item: A Nestor Fruge watercolor of a French Quarter scene. Born in Bayou Lafourche, Louisiana in 1916, Nestor Hippoyle Fruge spent parts of his painting career in Paris, New York and Mexico, but always returned to New Orleans, where was a prolific painter of French Quarter scenes, often working in Jackson Square. He operated Fruge’s Academy of Art in New Orleans from 1949 to 1952. Nestor Fruge watercolors have become classics of New Orleans art. Matted, not framed.

Nestor Hippoyle Fruge was a self-taught artist born in Bayou LaFourche, Louisiana, in 1916. He operated Fruge's Academy of Art in New Orleans from 1949 to 1952 and later traveled extensively, exhibiting his work primarily in Europe and Mexico, with frequent visits to New Orleans. His career includes achievements and awards dating back to the mid-1930s, and he worked with both oils and watercolors. Later in life, he was based in Acapulco, Mexico.
