Since purchased by Allan Stypeck in 1974, Second Story Books has grown from its small second floor location in northwest Washington, D.C., to become one of the largest used and rare bookstores in the world. During the pre-internet era of bookselling, Second Story Books had six locations from Alexandria to Baltimore, including the famous Georgetown Saville Bookstore location. With the growth of the internet, Second Story Books consolidated its brick-and-mortar presence into our two locations.

About the Item: Flanders: [ca. 1657-1699]. Oil on cardboard. Painting measures w. 8 in. x h. 6.5 in. housed in a w. 11.5 in by h. 10 in. black wooden frame. Frame appears contemporary, with antique wood and nail holes from previous backing, joints repaired and scuffing to front varnish. Painting secured with new archival foam backing. Moderate agetoning and yellowing with soiling specs along center, noticable upon close inspection - likely from smoking damage or paper acidity. Unsigned. Item no. P001. EH Consignment.
