About The Artist
At just 8 years old, Daud Akhriev was identified by the Soviet educational system for special arts training, leading to 14 years of study under renowned painters and instructors. This education culminated in a master’s degree from the Russian Academy in Leningrad, post his service in the Russian army. The Russian Academic philosophy, known for its encouragement of experimentation and referencing various artistic styles, enabled Akhriev to develop a vast range of skills, reducing technical challenges and fostering creativity. Akhriev, proficient in diverse mediums like mosaic, oil, water media, bronze sculpture, and ceramics, also excels in decorative styles and Old Master oil painting, drawing inspiration from artists like Rembrandt and Schiele. A Master Signature member of multiple art organizations, including Oil Painters of America and the Artists Union of Russia, Akhriev has won several awards, including from the Salon International and Pastel Magazine. His work on Erlanger Hospital's chapel was recognized as one of the "Ten Best Mosaic in Situ" in 2016. An internationally renowned instructor, his work is featured in art books and prominent magazines, and he currently exhibits pastel paintings in China. Fluent in multiple languages and an avid sports fan, film enthusiast, and traveler, Akhriev also has a passion for teaching young artists. He splits his time between Tennessee and Andalusia, Spain with his artist wife, Melissa Hefferlin.
