Annieo Klaas sees her paintings as windows into another world. Here, a decaying leaf becomes a stained-glass masterpiece, its parts like a kaleidoscope illuminated by sunlight. A begonia leaf, with white polka dots and a red underside, transforms into a velvet fan, letting light drip through in warm vermilion hues. As she painted, the plant bloomed, producing heart-shaped, poppy-red seeds, almost as if offering its heart.

Klaas is inspired by real objects that appear abstract, drawn to the surprising, natural compositions like fallen flowers or the intricate patterns of a leaf held up to light.
