About The Artist
Born in 1901 in Borgonovo, Switzerland, Alberto Giacometti grew up in Stampa and came from an artistic family. He studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and sculpture and drawing at the Ecole des Arts et Métiers in Geneva before moving to Paris in 1922, returning to Geneva during the war, and finally settling in Paris in 1946 while frequently visiting his hometown. Giacometti, who died in Chur, Switzerland in 1966, is renowned for his thin, elongated figure sculptures with blurred outlines, capturing the human form from a distance. His paintings and drawings also reflect this intense focus, with faces being meticulously reworked and redrawn on the canvas.
