A Cut Above

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Jen DeLuna explores the moments of vulnerability that are confessed through figures and animals. At their core, her paintings draw upon familiar cultural subjects to subvert the gaze. She distorts these classic representations of domesticity, beauty, love and femininity to depict them as memories. Some are wistfully fading, while others are stuck in a glossy state of film or porcelain. The paintings distill memory into nostalgia: perilous beauties, fearful beasts, and intimate moments that expose. DeLuna received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University in 2021. She currently lives and works in Boston.
